Until recently, antibiotics were considered essential for livestock production as growth promoters (AGP) and prophylactics. Many countries began to regulate antibiotic use and even phase out their use in livestock production after warnings about Antibiotic Microbial Resistance (AMR) emerged in the 1980s. Defeating antibiotic Microbial Resistance is a global concern and a war we must win.
The shift to reduced antibiotic use is challenging. To improve the resilience of animals, holistic approaches are needed, from reducing disease pressure to nutritional strategies. But what can be done to keep animals healthy, productive, and profitable throughout intensive swine production?
